Welcome to True Mexican. I hope that True Mexican can be a bridge of peace for these difficult times in Arizona. With the passage of SB 1070 it is my hope that even negative change can foster growth. We can either kick and scream our way through this roller coaster ride or find ways to enjoy the views and things we'll learn and places we'll see. For Mexican-Americans, Mexicans, Latinos, Hispanics, Chicanos or what ever term we choose, this is an important moment in time. It is a change maker, our moment to stand and be seen. It is our moment, as a people, to stand up for our civil rights. Whether we are a day laborer, a network engineer, we can be a part of change. Whether we are 100% Mexican, half, quarter, or have even one drop of this amazing blood; we are all affected by the ignorance, hate and fear this bill has ignited. Further more, we hope to embrace all cultures who are looking for a more peaceful existence that allows every person to feel pride in who they are. I don’t think we can look away any longer.
We are a people of great stories and our hope is to share the stories of our nanas, tatas, tios and padrinos. Through these stories we can begin to heal our souls and gain the power needed to create great change that will affect seven generations. We will discuss the real stories of our history. In my paternal family I was given a gift of story telling. My grandmother was a Nahua Indian from the Sierra Puebla born in the small town of Huachinango, Puebla. As a child, she spoke only Nahuatl and learned Spanish at school, which she attended until 3rd grade. She had learned ancient stories from her grandmothers and mothers and gifted them to me.
She told me the stories of Quetzalcoatl, the Plumed Serpent. He was our Mexican Christ. He would return during the ending days of the Mesoamerican Calendar. He would create peace and harmony again on this planet. Our people, La Raza, would stand once again to create a paradise on earth “Aztlan”. She told me how are beautiful Lady. the Virgin of Guadalupe, was the “Tonanzintla” our earth mother. She appeared during the horrible genocide of our people to protect our Indian blood.
As a child, 6 months out of the year I lived in Cholula, Puebla at the base of the largest pyramid in the world. Cholula was a ceremonial site for centuries dedicated to the worship of Quetzalcoatl in the ancient world of Mexico. The archeological site is so large that it could never be properly excavated because homes and fields are now sitting on ancient plazas and temple sites. Cholula is know for its numerous churches. When the Spaniard’s conquered Mexico they attempted to build a church on top of every old temple. They really had their work cut out for them because in Cholula there was a temple for every day of the Mesoamerican calendar. They tore the temples down and left a panorama of little churches. They took the facing stones off the Great Pyramid to build churches in Puebla, the new Spanish established town, and built a church dedicated to the Virgen de los Remedios on top of the pyramid. As a child I could feel the power of ancient times coming through the earth of this place . I would lay on the grassy pyramid hill looking out to the beautiful volcanoes of Iztaccihuatl and Popocatepetal and feel the call of Quetzalcoatl. He told me I was more than conqueror and conquered, more than a bastard of my white European fathers. I was a timekeeper. I was embraced by part ancient people who read the stars, understood the concept of zero and understood that God was timeless and of the “great mechanism of the Universe” Tonalpohualli that ran all things.
The voice of Quetzalcoatl has never left me. It encourages me to share with you the greatness of our people. It calls me to become active at this moment to help reclaim “Aztlan” not just for La Raza but for everyone who feels the call of justice and harmony in their heart. The voice calls me to share the real story of 2012 and how that affects us as children of the ancient timekeepers. The voice of Quetzalcoatl calls me to hear your stories and weave our power together so our voices will finally be heard.

I'm deeply blessed to be a friend of this phenomenal lady. Even more, to have had the opportunity of journeying to Puebla with her and a group of other pilgrims to learn, first hand, at her feet the rich stories of that most divine place. My life has been made so deeply touched by her wonderful stories and watching her inspirational leadership, not only within her family, but within the community. The Valley of the Sun is made brighter by her presence. Dorothy
